Microbial Safety

How we screen for bacteria, yeast, mold, and pathogens.

What is microbial testing?

Microbial testing checks for the presence and quantity of microorganisms in a product. This includes bacteria, yeast, mold, and specific pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella. These can enter during raw material sourcing, manufacturing, or packaging.

What we test for

TAPC

Total Aerobic Plate Count

Overall bacteria count. Measured in colony-forming units per gram (cfu/g). Lower is better.

Y&M

Yeast and Mold

Fungal contamination count. Important for powdered products that can absorb moisture.

E. Coli

Escherichia coli

Pathogen indicator. Must not be detected in any batch. Result is pass/fail.

Salmonella

Salmonella species

Dangerous pathogen. Must not be detected in 25g sample. Result is pass/fail.

Pass or fail

Microbial testing is strict: every test must pass. If any pathogen is detected, or if bacteria/yeast/mold counts exceed limits, the entire batch is rejected. We do not ship any batch that fails microbial screening.

How we score it

Microbial safety contributes 15 out of 100 points to our Quality Score. This is the smallest component because microbial testing is well-regulated and failures are rare in properly manufactured supplements. All tests pass = full 15 points. Any failure = 0 points.

Our Testing Standards

All testing performed by ISO 17025 accredited laboratories. Results comply with California Prop 65 and EU EFSA standards.
